Hepatitis B virus infection and STD
Hepatitis B virus can be transmitted by blood (especially by intravenous drug use), and by sexual transmission. There is also evidence that hepatitis virus A, D and G can rarely be transmitted homosexually or heterosexually. The virus can be present in the blood, saliva, vaginal discharge, semen of the patients. The risk of einfection is linked to the number and frequency of sexual partners involved in genital, oral or anal sex. Particular problems are present in patients with concomitant HIV virus and Treponema pallidum infection, and in children who have been abused. Some of hepatitis virus infections can be prevented by vaccination or use of condoms. The authors describe a case of concomitant infection with hepatitis B virus and Treponema pallidum. Conclusion: In patients with hepatitis B infection and other hepatitis virus infections, it is necessary to detect other possible sexually transmitted infections.
