A study of carbon dioxide absorption into aqueous monoethanolamine solution containing calcium nitrate in the gas-liquid reactive precipitation of calcium carbonate
The influence of the calcium nitrate on the process of carbon dioxide absorption in aqueous monoethanolamine (MEA) solution as an example of processes of industrial importance has been considered. The electric conductivity of the solution, its pH, the calcium concentration, and the concentration of CO_2 in the outgoing gas were monitored in order to determine the degree of process advancement. Granulometric, X-ray diffraction, FT-IR spectroscopic, and SEM analyses of calcium carbonate particles obtained during the carbonation process were also carried out. With respect to the presence of calcium nitrate a significant influence on the absorption process was observed. All observed phenomena and the results obtained indicate extraordinary complexity of the process shifting towards ion pair formation.
