On the siginificance of dissolved carbonates in karst processes (Gams Approach) a call for research cooperation
The authors and other participating researcher of this Croato-Slovene contribution, as well as the IGCP-379 leader himself, D. Yuan, do believe that the Gams approach can reflect recent karst processes, i.e. recent karstification ; especially if a new parameter - the dissolved carbonates module, DCE, i.e. the amount of dissolved carbonates per year and per square kilometer of the actual drainage area is taken into consideration. There are two goals in this proposed research. The first one is the researchers intention to confirm the starting idea that the parameter DCE very probably varies over time, depending on hydrological, meteorological and vegetation variations. It relates, first of all, to the CO2 content in the air and precipitation, but the changes of the amount and regimen of precipitation and air temperature also probably have impact. The second goal comprises efforts to understand the expected DCM variations influenced by changes in geological and physiographical factors, as well as by series of human activities, such as use of water, hydraulic construction, heavy reclamation etc. Intention of proposed study is to establish the way how to take into consideration of carbonate weathering, heterogeneity and anisotropy of karstic terrenes together with particular connections between surface and ground water circulation.
