Assesment of Possible Large Concrete Arch Bridge Alternatives

A single span bridge should be designed to cross the Bakar Strait on the state road between Rijeka and Senj. Solid rock terrain and deep cliffs are especially suitable for an arch bridge. Traditionally, concrete arch bridges are long present on Croatian coastline, so an attempt is to be made for such a bridge. A few alternative solutions of a concrete arch bridge for this crossing are presented. They differ in the type of deck and the type of concrete to be used. Standard concrete (C50/60, C55/67) is used in two solutions and high performance concrete RPC200 in the third. Alternative solutions are assessed by comparing material consumption and erection possibilities.
