LIMIT STATES ASSESSMENT OF ARCH BRIDGES EXPOSED TO WIND LOAD
A great number of existing Croatian bridges have been designed according to previously valid codes, so changes in requirements of new standards together with deficiencies and degradation over the years result in different reliability levels for these bridges. Research on development of limit states evaluation procedure for existing arch bridges exposed to wind load will be presented in this paper. The limit states evaluation procedure presented in this paper, through steps that become more complex and therefore more accurate, is suitable for existing bridge assessment in general. If limit states of the bridge are satisfied in the first step the following more complex steps are not necessary. If this is not the case the next step of the evaluation which will produce more accurate results is to be performed. Procedure is validated by its application to major Adriatic arch bridges: Šibenik Bridge spanning 246m, built in 1966 on the National road, located in the zone of reference wind velocity of 35m/s and the Maslenica Highway Bridge located in the zone of reference wind velocity of 50m/s.
