Measurement of WZ Production and search for WZ resonances with the CMS Detector
We present a measurement of the WZ cross section in proton proton collisions at sqrt(s)= 7 TeV. Results are based on data collected by the CMS detector at the Large Hadron Collider, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.09 inverse femtobarns. The leptonic decays modes of the W and Z bosons are used, and the considered final states contain electrons, muons and missing transverse energy. The measured cross section is consistent with the Standard Model expectation. The same data are then used to search for new exotic particles decaying into the WZ final state. No significant excess is observed in the mass distribution of the WZ candidates compared to the expectation from Standard Model processes. Lower bounds at the 95% C.L. are set on the mass of hypothetical particles decaying to the W Z final state in several theoretical models, including the Sequential Standard Model and Technicolor.
