Where is 'o': Croatian prepositions as vectors
This study of spatial and non-spatial usages of the Croatian preposition 'o' aims at establishing a set of clearly defined semantic parameters underlying the meaning and guiding the usage (and sytnactic behaviour) of this preposition. The analysis ultimately yields six meaning categories, which are systematized on the basis of the notions of vector i.e. dynamic force exchange, and the nature of Figures (F) and Ground (G). The account is aimed at showing that experientialist, bodily based notions such as force, more specifically its direction and intensity, together with ‘point of contact’ (attachment, or rather ‘point of action-reaction’)—all inherent in the notion of vector—represent solid bases for the categorization or rather explication of the mean-ing(s) of the Croatian 'o'.
