Instantaneous Frequency Estimation of Multicomponent Signals
One of the key parameters which provides important information about time-varying spectral changes in a non-stationary signal is its instantaneous frequency (IF). The most challenging IF estimation problem is to find the individual component IF of a multicomponent non-stationary signal corrupted by noise. The IF estimation error exhibits bias and variance dependant on the TFR analysis window width. Due to the opposite tendency of bias and variance with respect to the lag window width, a proper width can been found as the one providing the bias-to-variance tradeoff that reduces the estimation error. The author has proposed a robust IF estimator with an adaptive time-varying lag window width, which is capable of providing a proper bias-to-variance tradeoff.
