Modeling eastern Adriatic photochemical pollution

Ambient ozone data measured in Croatia in the 1990-ies have been analysed using recently introduced indicators in order to assess the photochemical air pollution level at that time. Ozone data collected during the summer seasons at the Adriatic island sites Mali Lošinj (1996), Iz (1990-91) and Hvar (1991) and coastal sites Makarska (1990) and Šibenik (1986) have been analysed and compared with the data from the Croatian capital Zagreb. All show that during this period the photochemical pollution indicators (PPI) have been medium to low, although intensive tourism activity existed at these locations. The comparison with recent data from the region (Zagreb, Rijeka, Opatija) shows that within the past 15 years the pollution indicators have not changed significantly indicating approximately constant levels of photochemical pollution.
