What is the appropriate treatment for a child with developmental disorders? -Neuropsychological perspective
The aim of this study was to show the importance of team diagnostic in determining the appropriate treatment for the patients of the Special hospital for children with neurodevelopmental and motor disorders in order to emphasize neuropsychological perspective as well. Psychologist was the member of the team and examined various functional deficits of a child. The total sample is consisted of 200 children who had various developmental disorders and were included in occupational therapy (OT) in outpatient department during last year. In order to create a psychological profile of a child, developmental, cognitive and behavioral measures were used. The most common psychodiagnostic criteria for including a child in OT were deficits in fine motor control, visual perception and in control of behavior. In later children’s age specific cognitive deficits occurred as more important. We compared recommended treatments on the first to those on the control psychological examination and they were obviously different. Interpretation of a data was made by using developmental neuropsychological approach.
