Genesis et Exodus: zwei altkroatische Bücher des Alten Testaments und die älteste ragusanische Prosa
The paper describes the translation of the two Old Testament books written in the Štokavian Old Croatian language and in Latin script. The manuscript is kept at the Dubrovnik Franciscan Monastery (Mala braća) and referred to in M. Brlek's catalogue as No 260. F. Fancev (1934) was the only one to briefly describe the basic characteristics of this manuscript. On the basis of the nature of copying errors, it was concluded that this is the older copy of the translation (probably created in the 15th century or in the early 16th century). The linguistic characteristics of the text show the Štokavian features of the Dubrovnik idiom. Hence, there is no doubt that this translation was created in Dubrovnik or in its surroundings. This translation gives evidence to the nowadays unknown effort of translating the Bible in the area of Dubrovnik. It is also a valuable testimony to the vitality and functionality of the Štokavian Old Croatian literary language before Kašić's translation of the Bible.
