L1 USE IN EARLY EFL LEARNING

Teaching English as a FL (foreign language) can be a very challenging task. There are many factors that can maximize the learning process. Teachers can only try to do their job in the best possible way, but there are no guarantees that they would actually succeed in their intentions. There are many guidelines on how to conduct a lesson, but as a teacher you have to be prepared for every situation. One of the problems that teachers have to deal with is the use of L1 in FLT. In this paper we deal with advantages and disadvantages of L1 in FL classrooms. We try to look into some benefits of L1 use, but we also try to demonstrate that teachers should be aware of the problems that could occur in the classrooms if they allow too much L1 use.
