Croatian Autonomy and Ministerial Impeachment from 1868 to 1918: Model and Reality
Legal responsibility of the Croatian ban to the Croatian Diet was provided by the Croatian-Hungarian Compromise 1868 and introduced by the law in 1874 based on the model of High Court. Even though that institute was not fully implemented in practice destiny of the two initiatives indicates its important features. The importance of that institute in the Croatian political reality was more symbolical - it legitimated the ban as a political functionary with ministerial status. The principal ratio of that institute, i.e. to grant responsible government, was not achieved - as was the case in all other lands in which it existed.
