Viral diseases in Croatian freshwater aquaculture

Outbreaks of viral diseases can cause large economic losses in freshwater fish aquaculture. To understand virus origin and spreading routes, comparison of different isolates on the basis of the partial genome nucleotide sequences can be performed. In this study, we present summary of the occurrence of fish viruses in examined freshwater fish farms in Croatia from 2005 to 2011. At three different farms IHNV, IPNV and SDV were detected in rainbow trouts, while SVCV was isolated from carps in purification treatment. Genotyping of detected viruses was applied and results are discussed in epidemiological context.
