Influence of syntheses conditions to properties of pure phase BiFeO3 synthesized under hydrothermal conditions without addition of a mineralizer
BiFeO3 is a multiferroic material ; hence it is ferroelectric and antiferromagnetic at room temperature [1]. Such systems are rare in nature, but have received renewed interest in recent years due to the wide range of technological applications. Since the spins in this material take the form of a long-wavelength (62 nm) the spiral linear magnetoelectric effect averages to zero. One of the ways to recover this linear effect is with thin-film epitaxial constraints. Thus, we expect the same effects in nanostructured BiFeO3. In this work the bismuth ferrite, BiFeO3 (BFO) nanoplates were synthesized in a hydrothermal process at low pH values without the introduction of any mineralizers containing metal cations, other than Fe3+ and Bi3+. The morphology, magnetic and electric properties of thus prepared BTO were compared with the properties of the BFO prepared in our earlier study using hydrothermal processing without mineraliser in the high pH environment [2].
