Parent's expectations from children in artistic gymnastics

The aim of this study is to determine the reasons for referral of the child in gymnastics such as expectations of success in sport. On the sample of 62 fathers and 64 mothers of children athletes, was applied a questionnaire to find out parent's motives and expectations for children achievements in artistic gymnastics. Descriptive statistics, correlation and regression analysis were used to get results. Multiple correlation of 0, 49 was determined by a regression analysis of motives for exercise and achievement. Optimal body weight and sports role model in life are the most connected variables with achievement expectation. For the regression analysis the less important facts are primarily socialization of children in a group and development of motor abilities. It cannot be said that those aspects are not important but the regression analysis showed that the parents who expect achievement for their children care more for their optimal weight and role models in artistic gymnastics.
