Efficiency of Inhibition of Sodium-Diethyldithiocarbamate for the CuNi10Fe Alloy in Chlorinated Seawater
Sodium-diethyldithiocarbamate (NaDDTC) has been proved to be an effective corrosion inhibitor for CuNi10Fe alloy in aerated chloride solutions. This work has been done to examine the influence of active chlorine on inhibitive properties of previously formed protective film on the alloy surface. The open circuit potential variation with time (OCP-t) and Tafel dependencies for inhibited and uninhibited electrodes have been examined in chlorinated and/or aerated seawater and it has been observed that active chlorine affects the cathodic reaction. In order to obtained insight in to the stability of the protective film during chlorination, cyclic voltammogrames were plotted for wide range of potentials, and impedance diagrams were recorded at OCP and different cathodic polarizations. On the basis of results obtained, the possible role of active chlorine or its disproportonationation products were discussed.
