Analysis of hydrodynamic conditions in the membrane bioreactor for wastewater treatment with residence time distribution

Membrane bioreactor for wastewater treatment with submerged membrane is a complex multiphase physico-chemical and biological system with numerous interactions between the process variables and the dynamic changes in the system of gas-liquid-solids phases. Hydrodynamic conditions in these processes depend primarily on the geometric characteristics of the reactor system, on the properties of the fluids, and on the dynamics of aeration, and they are of vital importance in design wastewater treatment processes and scale up processes. Determining the hydraulic residence time and mixing time is a significant indicator of the shape and hydrodynamic mixing conditions in the bioreactor.Within this work, analysis of hydrodynamic conditions in the membrane bioreactor for wastewater treatment with holow fiber membrane module is described using residence time distribution function. The obtained results of residence time distribution function were compared to the ideal model of continuous strired-tank reactor in order to define differences between the real membrane bioreactor systems and the ideal conditions. The presented results are a part of an extended research work in progress. Further experiments are focused on related residence time distribution in membrane bioreactor with high MLSS concentration and fouling membrane procesess.
