Effect of the inactivation of SPO11 gene on palindrome-stimulated pop-out recombination in Saccharomyces cerevisiae mitotic cells
Palindromic sequences are recombinogenic motifs that can provoke potentially dangerous genetic alterations. Hairpins and cruciforms are secondary structures formed by palindromes and are targets for cleavage by structure specific endonucleases. In yeast, several proteins have hairpin and/or cruciform cutting activities, and to gain more insight into process leading to formation of DNA breaks in these structures, in this work we analyzed the effect of deletion of yeast SPO11 gebe on palindrome-mediated recombination. It was shown that the deletion of the SPO11 gene was dispensable for palindrome mediated recombination in yeast cells.
