Reaction of autochthon herzegovinian potato cultivar Poluranka on different N fertilization management
The field trial on autochthon potato cultivar Poluranka is conducted in Herzegovina. We try to see yield reaction of named cultivar fertilized with different doses of nitrogen (0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 kg N ha-1). The expected outputs from the system (yield) cannot be sustained without human inputs. We set up the trial in randomize design with three replication. The tuber seeds used for setting up this trial were collected from local population in highland area. As this potato has very old origin the qualitY of seeds was very poor comparing to the commercial tuber seeds. Even so the old population mention this kind of potato as very tasteful one. To preserve this cultivar first we have checked the reaction on common agro-technical practice and response to nitrogen fertilization. Tuber yield of potato Poluranka was almost bisected comparing to the yield of commercial varietY. Highest N fertilisation was not resulted in highest yield but comparing to the control it was significant. Lower yield in all nitrogen treatment has shown high content of tuber dry matter especially in control treatment (whiteout fertilization). Virus infections which were detected on potato tuber are responsible for low yield results. Cleaning the tuber seed from viruses will improve the yield rates and response to the N fertilization treatments.
