Resistance to peer pressure - what's attachment got to do with it?
In adolescence, changes in the hierarchy of attachment figures occur by which teens increasingly turn to their peers for support, whereas parents function more as “attachment figures in reserve”. The aim of this study was to examine relation between susceptibility to peer pressure and attachment. The results showed that susceptibility to peer pressure is higher among adolescents with insecure attachment to friends, but the size of this effect i small.
