A simple method for two channel QMF bank design based on the frequency sampling approach

A simple method for the design of nearly perfect reconstruction quadrature mirror filter (QMF) banks is presented. The method is based on frequency sampling approach for the design of the low pass analysis filter whose optimized transition band frequency samples are obtained from a pre-determined table. The number of the transition samples and their values are selected on the basis of the desired stopband attenuation and/or the overall amplitude distortion. The filter length is determined by the required transition band. The filter coefficients are then determined by an inverse DFT of the frequency sample set. It is shown that proposed design is simple and flexible with sufficient accuracy for filter of length greater than 16.
