Regional Energy Planning Approach to Wind Energy Developments in Croatia Example of County of Split-dalmatia
For the last several years a new approach to energy planning was applied in Croatia. Local administrative units in Croatia - counties - were concluded to be optimal-size communities for regional energy planning because their climatic, energy and population differences are significant enough. Four counties are currently involved in the analyses which are mainly carried out by county energy centres or offices, and supported by the Energy institute "Hrvoje Pozar". After getting a database on energy consumption and after completing prognosis on future energy demand by all sectors, different energy supply options were analysed. Contribution of local renewable resources was also taken into account. Within the national wind energy utilisation program (ENWIND), wind energy potentials were estimated based on available wind data. Barriers which hinder wind energy utilisation were identified and steps for future activities were proposed. This paper presents the first results on work which has been done, concentrating on wind energy potential assessment in the County of Split-dalmatia.
