Amorphus Globosus and Freemartinism in Triplets from a Holstein-Friesian Cow – A Case Report
A 5-year-old Holstein-Friesian cow calved abnormal triplets after 278 days of pregnancy. One male calf was born alive without visible abnormalties, one female calf died in utero, and a third one was diagnosed as Amorphus globosus. At necropsy, the female calf was diagnosed with hydrothorax, ascites, and freemartinism (prominent clitoris and genital tract hypoplasia). Amorphus globosus was dissected and evaluated grossly. Section of the monster was preserved in 10% buffered formalin and examined by histopathology. The male calf was raised until 3 month old and sold to the slaughter house at the weight of 145 kg.
