Influence of silica particles on the incidence and growth of 3-methylcholanthrene-induced tumors in mice
Adult BALB/c mcie were injected subcutaneously with 0.1 mg 3-methylcholanthrene per animal in seed oil. The mice were divided into 4 groups: the first group was without treatment and the other 3 groups were treated with silica particles in different way. The data shows that neither tumor incidence nor the time of tumor appearance differed among the four experimental groups. We thus conclude that silica particles do not alter the principles of chemically-induced tumor incidence and early phases of its growth, but rather they alter the defense against larger more established tumors.
