NMR Noise Spectroscopy: The Influence of Matching and Cable Lengths
NMR noise spectra can be separated into pure spin noise and absorbed circuit noise (ACN) contributions. The complex tuning dependence of NMR noise spectra can be attributed mostly to ACN. A symmetrical dip line shape of a noise signal can be used as an indicator for optimum receiving conditions: the spin noise tuning optimum - SNTO. We have mapped the line shapes of noise signals upon systematic variation of the matching adjustments, cable lengths and circuit tuning. On most probes we found more than one SNTO - dip. One can not only optimize for the receiving situation but also find conditions, where both pulse excitation and receiving properties are optimal, i.e. the conventional tuning optimum and the SNTO coincide.
