Case study report: Does media policy promote media freedom and independence? The case of Croatia
The social role and position of the media in Croatia has considerably changed during the last about 20 years:the media have been radically restructured, media markets have been established and the new regulations and laws introduced. All these developments have not been carried on within some concept of the media policy. The media policy has evolved chaotically and as a result of the need to organize communication within the transitional public domain. New media policy should incite further improvement of regulations, deal with challenges posed by new technologies and new types of media consumption and meet the needs of the democratic public communication that promotes media freedom and independence.
