The aim of this study was to apply the advanced oxidation process, UV/H2O2, for degradation of toxic aromatic compounds (phenol, 2-chlorophenol, catechol) in aqueous solution ( model wastewater). Experiments were carried out in batch photoreactor. The effects of the following parameters, pH, concentration of H2O2 and type of substituent in o-position of aromatic ring at constant temperature and characteristics of UV radiation on the process efficiency were established. Experimental data were analyzed using softwares Statistica and DoE (Design of Experiments). The high-pressure liquid chromatography, HPLC, was used for monitoring and evaluation of process efficiency. The reaction rates of degradation of aromatic compounds (pollutants) by UV/H2O2 process showed to follow a first-order kinetic. The reduction of values of total organic carbon (TOC), chemical oxygen demand (COD) and biological oxygen demand (BOD) during the treatment at t ½ and t ¾ (the time needed to reduce ½ or ¾ of the initial concentration of investigated compound) were determined at found optimal process conditions.
