Egg-laying trends in black redstart (Phoenicurus ochruros Gmelin)
In many bird species, one of the responses to climate change is an earlier timing of breeding. In our study, the aim was to examine the possible relation of the first laying dates and local spring temperatures of the black redstart (Phoenicurus ochruros Gmelin) in northwestern Croatia. The date of clutch initiation was significantly associated with mean April temperature, and also was significantly correlated with research period. Black redstart laying dates have become 10.6 days earlier since the begging of study period in northwestern Croatia. This result indicates that this bird species responds to local air temperatures by earlier breeding.
