Satisfaction of Inhabitants with Living in Rural Areas near Urban Centres – Example of Zagreb, Republic of Croatia
Rural areas near city centres show significant demographic, infrastructure and economic differences in relation to the remote ones. This is especially pronounced in countries experiencing significant, often sudden political, economic and other changes in a short period of time. Having become independent in 1991, the Republic of Croatia had replaced planned economy with the market economy, undergone a five-year period of war and in 2013 it is becoming a member of the European Union. Generally speaking, rural area can be preserved only by solving difficulties emphasised by domicile inhabitants as an element of the quality of life which would not only prevent depopulation but create preconditions to make it become an immigration area. The paper conducts a research on the satisfaction of inhabitants with living in the rural area of Zagreb, the capital of the Republic of Croatia, on problems they are facing and measures of state support they find necessary in solving major difficulties.
