Effects of some agrotechnical measures upon predominant weed species and maize grain yield
Effects of various weed control (1 interrow cultivation control, 1 interrow cultivation + 1 hoeing and six herbicide mixtures and rates, pre-em. + 1 interrow cultivation) upon weed levels with maize field trials were evaluated in Eatrern Croatia from 1987 to 1988. The predominant weed species were aestival therophytes: : Amaranthus retroflexus, Echinochloa crus galli, Chenopodium album, Polygonum lapathifolium, Solanum nigrum and Setaria glauca. The weed level varied depending on weed control measures, weather conditions, and seasonal aspects. The index of weediness in June was reduced by means of chemical weed control +1 interrow cultivation and by 1 hoeing + 1 interrow cultivation for 98 and 49 persent, respectively, compared to control plots. Mechanical weed control was less satisfactory in both years and resulted in a maize yield lower for 31 persent on average, compared to the chemical control.
