Formation of γ-Fe2O3 by thermal decomposition of a mixture of Fe(II)- and Fe(III)-oxalate salts
The formation of γ-Fe2O3 by thermal decomposition of a mixture of Fe(II)- and Fe(III)-oxalate salts was investigated using X-ray diffraction, 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy and FT IR spectroscopy. It was found that the ball-milling of the starting chemicals, at the concentration ratio for the Fe3O4 formation, suppressed the formation of α-Fe2O3 as the phase associated with γ-Fe2O3 during the thermal decomposition process. The correlation of the results obtained by X-ray diffraction, 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy and FT IR spectroscopy was shown.
