On Some Arguments Concerning Freedom and Determinism
In this talk I would like to examine some arguments concerning freedom and determinism. For example, I would like to show that humean compatibilism could be refuted by humean conception of causation and that this kind of argument can be turned to an argument for libertarianism. Namely, the core lies in that there is no necessity in regular sequences of events. If it is so, we can argue that some sequences contain a possibility of coming out otherwise than they previously have been coming out. That would be more than a welcome outcome for a libertarian in explicating freedom of will and freedom of action in terms that the agent is free if and only if an agent could have done otherwise in the same situation. In examining this and some other relations between freedom and determinism I shall connect some proposals with professor Pradhan's insights into these matters.
