Maintaining the homeland ties: The Croatian diaspora film festival in Melbourne, Australia

Since the beginning of the 21st century Australian Croats are one of the largest ethnic communities in Australia ; aims to investigate reports that the role and how festivals can be a link / bond between the Croatian Diaspore the homeland. In Australia, each migrant group / community during the year, held its events and many different festivals. Since the Republic of Croatia produces high quality films of different themes to access the organization of the first Croatian Film Festival in Australia, driven by the idea of how far Croatian migrant communities did not have anything like that is poorly acquainted with contemporary film culture homeland. The aim of the festival was two-fold: to attract both emigrant Croats and Australians of all nations through the film to know Croatia, closer to the achievements of contemporary Croatian culture, to connect the community around non political, non party but indeed pure entertainment and intellectual project and show them that we can organize a beautiful, events outside the mainstream community and outside the Croatian clubs and organizations on which Australians will come and that is an Australian audience. In fact, most young people of Croatian origin were alienated from the community and do not find any content in clubs and organizations that would be attracted to its activities to become active members of the same. It is thought that the festival fun, but a passive way to meet people and enjoy the quality of Croatian culture. Theme films were primarily intended for audiences up to 45 years, but it turned out that there were people of all age groups up to 80 years of age who had with great interest and enthusiasm embraced contemporary Croatian film production. All the films were subtitle in English. There is a need, and desire to Croats in Australia on the one hand and Croatian director, actors and movie houses with the homeland, that the festival is now held every year even though it's a big job and needed to be all over the professionalization process.
