Construction of the drilling mechanism as a factor of vegetable sowing quality
Seeds of vegetable crops differ greatly in their characteristics, of which size, shape, weight and seed admixtures are of special importance for the selection and application of drilling mechanisms. Different sizes and shapes of seeds demand application of adequate seeding mechanisms with special constructional solutions aimed at as precise as possible seed distribution. The goal of the study is to identify the type of drilling mechanism suitable for better sowing quality of a particular vegetable crop, as well as the influence of a particular type of drilling mechanism on precision sowing with regard to seed size and shape and sowing speed. As a method of checking the results obtained in drill exploitation, laboratory investigations were also performed on drills with mechanical and pneumatic drilling mechanisms. Investigations involved carrot, red beet and lettuce seeds. Results of laboratory investigations confirmed that an increase in sowing speed leads to poorer sowing quality of mechanical and pneumatic drilling mechanisms. It was found that the uniformity of seed ejection from mechanical drilling mechanisms depends on the matching of the shape and size of cell-wheel and belt holes and seed shape and size, and on the intensity and uniformity of air flow in pneumatic drilling mechanisms.
