Four volumes in the Stirling engine
The sum of the hot and cold volume in the displacer cylinder is always constant, resulting in a straight line. Upon this line, sinusoidal volume changes of the working cylinder should be added, resulting in the fourth volume. Calculating with four, instead of three volumes, numerical result is the same as before. Nevertheless, such a kind of thinking leads to the main question : Where to connect the working cylinder ? Either on the cold part or upon the hot part, or perhaps in the middle of the displacer cylinder ?
