Welding practices of arc welding of titanium alloys
This paper reviews the process characteristics for arc welding titanium alloys and compares these characteristics with electron beam welding and laser welding. The characteristics of active flux tungsten inert gas welding and keyhole mode gas tungsten arc welding, two recent developments to gas tungsten arc welding, are considered, as is keyhole mode plasma arc welding. Notably, conduction mode gas tungsten arc welding are shown to have comparable mechanical properties with electron beam welding in relation to both cast and wrought base metals.
