Daughters Shall Be Satisfied with the Filial Quarters, True or False? Inheritance Patterns in the Medieval County of Požega
The paper examines the relationship between the inheritance law as defined by legal regulations and practice, and that in regard to inheritance rights which daughters had in the property of their fathers. For that goal, there were used examples from the county of Požega, a county with predominantly Slavonic population placed in the southern part of the medieval Kingdom of Hungary. It was shown that the daughters, even according to the legal norms, had rights not only on filial quarter, but also on the estates acquired by their fathers by purchase, and in practice, there were sometimes cases when they could inherit all their fatherly possessions.
