Application of modern slab track system on the High performance railway line „State border – Zagreb – Rijeka“ :System RHEDA 2000®

With respect to the track stability, the ballasted track system proved to be most unstable part of the permanent way during the period of exploitation. Since the biggest problem for the railway authorities is precisely the disturbance of the track geometry caused by dynamic influences of trains, the high performance railway line “State border (Botovo) – Zagreb – Rijeka“ shall have a modern permanent way track system on a solid base, along with the conventional permanent way with concrete sleepers placed on ballast base, all in accordance with the modern worldwide trends. The experiences of railway companies in other countries using modern track systems on a solid base have proved to be positive for some time now in several aspects. Due to a greater transverse and lateral stability of the permanent way of tracks on a solid base, its degradation has significantly decreased, making it a more financially feasible solution since it greatly decreases the cost of track maintenance and in accordance with this, it decreases the costs o shutting down of railway during the maintenance period. Having studied different track systems on a solid base, which can be presently found on the market and in use, the RHEDA 2000® system is the most acceptable for our requirements. Except the fact that this system is the most applied system in the world, its simplicity from the technological implementation aspect, as well as its remarkable stability and consistence during its exploitation period makes it the most acceptable solution for our needs. With respect to the above mentioned reasons, the permanent way of a track system on a solid base, in our case, shall be made as the RHEDA 2000® system, but the final decision will be made after we do the feasibility study for the permanent way.
