Analysis of long term effects of waste water disposal in Brac-Split channel
The coastal sea in the Split region represents one of the most polluted parts of the Adriatic sea, particularly the Kastela Bay. Extensive activities have been carried out in order to improve the situation. The preliminary works include a great number of activities including the analysis of long- term effects caused by the discharge of waste water from the coastal area into the Brac-Split Channel in accordance with the planned alternative solutions for the waste water disposal. The analysis was performed using a three- dimensional regional simulation model. It was concluded that the Brac-Split Channel has a sufficient recipient capacity considering organic pollutants, and that the discharge of the planned quantities of organic pollutants will not cause permanent adverse effects upon the sea quality. The paper presents the experience and results obtained in the course of the realization of this activity.
