Modeling of Dual Dry Clutch Thermal Dynamics

The paper proposes a lumped-parameter mathematical model of thermal dynamics of a dry dual clutch. The model is developed by using bond graph modeling technique. The model has three states related to temperatures of the clutch main elements: pressure plate, flywheel and surrounding yoke ; which are characterized by corresponding heat capacities. The clutch bell housing temperature is considered to be known provided by direct measurement. The clutch friction related dissipated energy represents the input of the system. The heat flux between the system elements is described by corresponding heat transfer coefficients. The method used for identification of the heat transfer coefficient based on experimental results collected by developed transmission test rig is described along with the main identification results. The model is validated against experimental results demonstrating a good modeling accuracy.
