The island of Hvar in prehistory and antiquity - A surevey of archaeological record
The island of Hvar shares the main features of its history with other Middle Dalmatian islands. It came into being at the end of Pleistocene, when the rising sea levels separated it from the mainland. Since that time, its history was marked by continuity, which was interrupted by influx of new populations on two (possibly, three) occasions: around 6000 B.C., possibly around 2500 B.C., and, once again, soon after 400 B.C.
