A Workflow Wrapper for Unstructured Workflows

Modelling workflows for prerequisite relations produces well-defined and well-formed workflows that contain only and-splits and and-joins. Such workflows often cannot be transformed into structured workflows. A workaround based on element cloning produces similar structured workflows that correspond to original workflows, but requires a design of a workflow wrapper that do the necessary adjustments in the runtime. This paper presents key elements of an implementation of such a workflow wrapper using Windows Workflow Foundation and describes the data structures for storing data about clones and methods to properly handle clones in the runtime. Moreover, presented solution uses web services and as such extends a number of supported client platforms.
