Distribution, status and movements of Cormorant Phalacrocorax carbo in Yugoslavia
In 1975 the number of breeding colonies of the Cormorant, Phalacrocorax carbo sinensis, has increased from 2 to 6: Kopački rit, Jelas polje, mouth of th reiver Bojana, Prespa Lake, Skadar lake and Hutovo blato, and the number of breeding pairs amounted to 1.923. The Yugoslav population of Cormorant visits Baltic area and migrates to northern Africa for wintering. Cormorants from Denmark, GDR, Poland, Sweden, Norway, The Nethferalnds, Czechoslovakia and USSR migrate through or winter in Yugoslavia. The presence of Cormorants from Norway indicate that individulas belonging to Phalacrocorax carbo carbo migrate to Yugoslavia as well.
