Money circulation in Liburnia in the pre-imperial period: preliminary report

Numismatic finds from Liburnian region (area from the river Rasa to the river Krka, according to Plinius the Elder) from the pre- imperial period has never been systematically studied before. Because of this in scientific literature there are still many misconceptions about its circulation and how this money was used in the region. Preliminary results show that monetary types circulating in Liburnia are not the same as in central and south Dalmatia, where the Greek coins dominate. Here we find mainly Roman Republican, Carthaginian, Numidian and Ptolemaic types. Although Greek and Celtic coins are found as well, they are not so frequent. In this report we will focus on numismatic finds from the settlements, not the hoards, which are much better studied and published.
