Chemical Properties of Waste Wood for Pellet Production

The term industrial waste wood means remnants from wood industry and re-used wood. Industrial wood remnants are wood residues from wood processing plant of wood technology industry, including remnants of wood composite materials with a majority share of the wood. Re-used wood are used products made from solid wood and wood composite materials with a majority share of the wood. To ensure the environmentally safe use of waste wood, it is necessary to comply with certain laws and regulations, where it should be noted the same diversity when using in the production of composite materials than those in use for energy. The most important environmental criteria for use of waste wood, especially re-used wood are chemical composition analysis of the heavy metals (trace elements). In this study were made chemical analysis for heavy metals determination such as for cadmium (Cd), lead (Pb), chromium (Cr), copper (Cu), nickel (Ni) and cobalt (Co) in waste wood that could be used in the pellets production according to the CEN/TS 15297:2006 standard using flame atomic absorption spectrometry (FAAS). Furthermore, a categorization of waste wood as a raw material for pellet production were made based on the obtained results.
