Single component and multi-component metal sorption onto fungal pellets

Aspergillus niger biomass was found to adsorb a variety of different metals. the biosorbtion of copper(II), zinc(II), nickel(II) and chromim(VI) onto fungal biomass was strongly pH dependent but independent of pellet size. A comparison is made between single component and multi-component mixtures of Cu-Zn-Ni-Cr. Aspergillus niger is shown to posses an affinity for Cu and Zn (about 50% capacity) while this is not the case with Ni and Cr(capacity about 20%).
