System dynamics model of sardine population (Ssardina pilchardus) in the Eastern Adriatic Sea
Schaefer production model of sardine population (Sardina pilchardus) in the Eastern Adriatic Sea was made by application of system dynamics modeling and available biological data. System dynamics flow diagram in Powersim and mathematical-computer model in DYNAMO language was made based upon mental-verbal and structural model of sardine population. Behavior dynamics of sardine population had almost ideal S-shaped curve in zero scenarios, when fishing was not included and that was the common behavior in population dynamics systems. The different responses of population on different fishing intensity were also investigated. It was possible to determinate required level of exploitation in order to preserve desired sardine population biomass. The development of appropriate system dynamics models can provide sophisticated tools for sustainable fish population management.
