The Influence of Migrations and Contact with Others on the Origin of the Name of the Croatian Sub-Ethnic Group Šokci
Sub-ethnic and ethnic names frequently originate from names by which groups designate themselves or from names given to them by other groups with which they have contact. All of these names, when observed within value categories, are almost always affirmative or neutral. Contrary to that, sub-ethnic and ethnic names given by others are usually pejorative (derogatory) and reflect a negative image of the other. It was on the basis of this scientific knowledge that the postulate for this research was established, claiming that the origin of names of some sub-ethnic groups in South-Eastern Europe i.e. on the Balkan Peninsula is based upon these facts.
