Safety of dermatologic drug therapy
Patient safety may be compromised when applying dermatologic preparations and by using medications for the treatment of dermatologic illnesses due to various reasons that in part result from medical errors (in diagnosis, prescribing of medications, dispensing of medications, monitoring of medication application, etc.). They can also be the consequence of careless use by the patients (misunderstanding of written/oral instructions, insufficient consultation with a physician or pharmacist), as well as the consequence of known side effects and medication interactions. There are a number of principles how to improve patient safety as part of health care quality and efficacy of medication therapy. System changes are needed to reduce medical errors.
